Leaders
The group has several long-standing members, most of them have come up through the group and stayed to become leaders to offer the same experiences they were offered.
Richard
Group Scout Master
Richard was a Scout at 3rd Kingston Scout Group as a boy and then became a leader with 1st Frimley Green & Mytchett in 1984 when his eldest son joined Cubs. In 1993 Richard and his wife Michele along with some fifty other parents started 1st Blackwater Valley B-P Scouts with the desire to continue traditional Scouting in a wholly volunteer environment. All four of Richard’s sons have been Scouts.

Michele, her husband Richard, and their children were founder members of 1st Blackwater Valley B-P Scout Group. Michele was unit leader for Beavers and Cubs and has helped on many Scout camps. Michele also drove the Scout Group coach for many years (“Lady Penelope” and “George”). Michele is now the Group Treasurer and still holds a uniform warrant so that she can help out where possible.

Sonia

Sonia, her husband John, and their two boys have been members since the beginning. Sonia has been a leader with Beavers and Cubs, and has helped with many Scout camps in the UK and France along with John. John was also a leader with Scouts when their boys were there and still maintains a DBS clearance with the Group so that he can help where possible. Sonia still holds a uniform warrant so that she can help out where possible.

Margaret, her husband Mike, and their two sons are founding members of 1st Blackwater Valley B-P Scouts. Margaret has been a leader with Beavers and Cubs and is now a Trustee but still holds a uniform warrant so that she can help out where possible. Margaret and Mike taught archery to the Scouts together and Mike made the Scout Patrol boxes that are still in use today.

Joining beavers in 1999, Callum has progressed through the sections until he took out his warrant in 2015. He also held the position of Assistant to the Quarter Master for several years until his father retired. He is also Assistant Scout Master for Seniors.

After progressing through the group as a child, Jon took a warrant when he was too old to attend Seniors. Jon also organises and fires the fireworks for the group’s annual bonfire night, having spent most of his life as a professional pyrotechnician.
